Patterson was named the ACC Defensive Back of the Week while Swank earned Specialist of the Week honors.
Patterson, a 5-10, 191-pound redshirt senior safety from Kingsland, GA (Camden County), accounted for three of Wake Forest’s seven takeaways in the 12-3 win over Florida State. Patterson had two interceptions and forced a fumble.
Patterson’s first interception came in the second quarter when he picked off Christian Ponder and returned it 32 yards. Early in the fourth quarter, Patterson hit Preston Parker and forced him to cough up the ball which was recovered by Michael Carter.
With Wake leading 9-3 with just over 4 minutes to play in the game, Patterson intercepted a D’Vontrey Richardson pass and returned it 22 yards. Patterson had six tackles in the game including three solos and three assists.
Swank, a 6-2, 201-pound redshirt senior from Jacksonville Beach, FL (Fletcher), booted a career-high four field goals against Florida State. Swank converted from 48, 29, 49 and 31 yards.
He also set a school record with seven field goal attempts in the game.
Swank moved into third place on the ACC list for career field goals with 69. He is tied for 21st in NCAA history for career field goals made.
Wake Forest, ranked 15th this week in the USA Today Coaches poll and 16th by Associated Press, will host Navy on Saturday at 3:45 p.m. at BB&T Field.
