There is no doubt that a great punter is a valuable weapon for any team. Bolles High School in Florida certainly has one of those in rising senior Alex Wulfeck. Wulfeck, who is considered one of the best punters in the 2009 class, averaged 42 yards and almost 4 seconds hang time per punt last season while on his way to All-District honors. Wulfeck is also ranked at or near the top of his class by many kicking services.
Wulfeck recently visited Wake Forest and had many good things to say about his trip. "The trip was just fantastic. I got a real good feel for the coaches and I really bonded with Sam Swank and Shane Popham. Wake just felt right to me, it was a lot like Bolles."
The Demon Deacons will be looking to add a punter in 2009, and although he has not been offered yet,
Wulfeck stated that the Deacs are keeping a close eye on him. "When I was visiting I talked with Coach Mitchell and he wants to work with me at their camp in June so I will be going to that. Also, Coach Elrod said they will be recruiting a punter and they may come to Bolles this spring to watch practice."
Wulfeck will also be hitting the camp circuit hard
this summer. "I will be going to camp at Wake,
Tennessee, N.C. State, Vanderbilt, and Miami Ohio. It looks like I am going to be real busy this summer."
At this point, Wulfeck has a clear leader. "Wake is my clear leader right now. They have a great
combination of academics and athletics. Wake just
feels like the right place for me."
When asked about a timetable for a decision Wulfeck responded, "I want to get my decision out of the way as soon as possible. The whole process is a bit stressful so I am really looking forward to getting my first offer."
Alex also noted he will be at Wake's spring game on April 19th with fellow 2009 recruit Steve Barnett and 2008 signee Scott Betros, both from Bolles.
Alex is a hard worker that is always trying to improve his already impressive skills. You can bet whoever signs him will be getting an outstanding punter as well as a great student athlete.
