Souza Commits To WFU

Frank Souza

Stellar defensive performer Frank Souza has decided to commit to Wake Forest adding to the long line of Nease Football standouts that have decided to join the Demon Deacons.

Nease Football class of 2008 Nease standouts Ted Stachitas, Riley Haynes, and Ramon Booi will make their way to Winston-Salem in the summer of 2008 while class of 2006 star LB Hunter Haynes recently completed his redshirt freshman campaign with the Deacs and earned ACC all-freshman team honors.

Souza joins fellow Nease Football class of 2009 defensive lineman John Gallagher with his commitment to Wake Forest.

"It simply came down to Wake Forest being the right place for me," said Souza.

Souza went on to add: "There were so many schools offering me lately and I didn't really want to go through all of that stuff – I'm already concentrating on helping the Nease Panthers be the best we can be in 2008. That's what is important to me right now. Anyhow, I just knew in my heart I wasn't being fair to any of the other schools that were recruiting me and offering me because I had really already found my college home. Wake Forest's academics, football players, and coaches are the perfect combination for me. It's kind of like home away from home for us – It's an honor to be the latest to join the Nease pipeline to Wake Forest. Hopefully, we can add one more this year with WR Patrick Barker – we'll wait and see. It's just an awesome experience to commit – I spoke with Coach Elrod, Coach McCartney, and Coach Grobe – we were all fired up and excited!"

It was a great day on Friday for Souza who won a championship at the St. Johns River Athletic Conference Weightlifting Competition after having had committed to Wake Forest. His clean and jerk of 350 pounds was a new conference record as Souza led the way for Nease winning its 2nd successive Conference Title.

Souza finished the 2007 season with 101 total tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 26 QB pressures and earned 3rd team 2007 All-State and 1st team All-County honors and is listed on the Florida Top 50 Prospect Watch List.
