WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest head football coach Jim Grobe completed his football coaching staff last month with the hiring of Brian Knorr and Steve Russ. All that was left to do was decide which position each would coach.

While not a re-organization, Grobe has shifted a few of the coaching responsibilities of the staff to make the best use of their talents. The changes come in the wake of the departure of quarterback coach Jeff Mullen who became the offensive coordinator at West Virginia, and defensive coordinator Dean Hood who became the head coach at Eastern Kentucky University.

Brad Lambert, Wake Forest’s linebacker coach, will assume the defensive coordinator responsibilities for the coming season. Tim Billings, Wake’s wide receiver coach the last two years, will move to the defense where he will coach the secondary.

On offense, former Demon Deacon quarterback Tom Elrod will move from coaching the tight ends and fullbacks to mentoring the quarterbacks. Russ will take over with the tight ends/fullbacks and Knorr will work with the wide receivers.

"I'm really excited about changes that we've made on our coaching staff,” said Grobe. “It can be beneficial to bring in coaches with new ideas. We have always helped ourselves by switching coaches from offense to defense and vice versa. They bring a new perspective that can help us understand each side of the ball better."
