NOTES: Tech Stings Wake In Overtime

ATLANTA, GA -- Despite 28 points from Chas McFarland, Wake Forest was unable to overcome Georgia Tech on the road Saturday, falling to the Yellow Jackets 87-79 in Atlanta. With the loss, the Demon Deacons fell to 16-11, 6-8 on the season.

• Wake Forest started James Johnson, Harvey Hale, Chas McFarland, L.D. Williams, and Ishmael Smith.
• Jeff Teague, a starter most of the season, was replaced in the line-up by Harvey Hale. Coach Gaudio noted after the game that Teague was asked to work on his defense after the Deacons' loss to Maryland. According to Gaudio, Teague played better defense Saturday against the Yellow Jackets.
• James Johnson was unable to score or pull down a rebound in the first half of Saturday’s game. Due to foul trouble, the Cheyenne, Wyoming native played just four first half minutes.
• Wake Forest was unable to play defense without fouling in the 1st half as the Deacs picked up 13 1st half fouls, sending Georgia Tech to the line 21 times.
• Wake Forest never led in the contest. The Deacs were tied with the Yellow Jackets 2-2 before the Georgia Tech went on a 7-0 run and eventually led 13-4. Wake Forest next tied the game at 72 in the last minute of regulation.
• Jeff Teague came off the bench in the first half to score 13 points, leading all scorers. Anthony Morrow led Georgia Tech in scoring with 12 points.
• Wake Forest trailed Georgia Tech 44-37 at halftime.
• Teague started the second half for the Demon Deacons along with Smith, Williams, Johnson, and McFarland.
• L.D. Williams joined James Johnson in foul trouble with 16:15 left in the game, picking up his 3rd foul. Harvey Hale picked up his 3rd foul just two minutes later. Teague, Hale, and McFarland would all eventually foul out in overtime.
• Wake Forest finally tied the game back up gain with 43.6 seconds left in the 2nd half. Jeff Teague drove to the basket and hit a floater to tie the game 72-72.
• The game went into overtime, 72-72. Prior to Saturday, Wake Forest was 0-1 in overtime games this season as the Demon Deacons lost 80-75 at Clemson in January.
• McFarland, Teague, Johnson, Hale, and Smith started the overtime period for the Demon Deacons.
• Behind five early overtime points from Gani Lawal, Georgia Tech burst out to a 8-2 run and a six point lead in overtime and never looked back, defeating Wake Forest 87-79.
• Chas McFarland led Wake Forest in scoring with 28 points, a career high. McFarland also pulled down 12 rebounds Saturday, leading all Wake Forest players.
• Wake Forest's dismal three-point shooting returned on Saturday as the Demon Deacons shot just 19.2% from three on 5-26 shooting.
• Announced attendance for Saturday’s game was 9,191.
• With the loss, Wake Forest is now 16-11 on the season, 6-8 overall while Georgia Tech improves to 12-15, 5-8. Wake Forest travels to Blacksburg for another ACC road contest on Tuesday night while Tech hosts Virginia on Monday.
