You would think that at 6'6 190 pounds at the high school level, Jonathan Rice would be banging with the big boys down low. That is certainly not the case for the Fayetteville resident. The versatile sophomore spoke with DeaconSports.com about his season and his move to an unlikely position.

Jonathan Rice is one of the many talented players in the North Carolina class of 2010. Rice and his teammates at Fayetteville Academy were recently eliminated from the state tournament by Calvary Baptist, but that does not mean they had a bad season. "We played hard this year," said Rice "We ended up 18-9."

As far as his play is concerned, Rice had a great season, averaging 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists per contest. Very good numbers for the sophomore point guard -- point guard. "I think I played ok this year," he said. "It was a tough transition at first to point guard but that is where the team needed me. I was comfortable playing down low so I had to really work hard on creating my own shot as well as my three point shooting," said Rice who also spoke about some of his strengths as well. "I feel like I play good defense and I am always working hard and rebounding even if I am not scoring."

Rice, who is expected to play small forward at the next level, is gaining quite a bit of interest at this early stage in his recruitment. "Wake Forest, Stanford, and UNC-G are showing me the most interest at this point. I have been to Wake Forest three times so far and have been to two of their games this year."

Rice was recently able to see the Demon Deacons upset of then #2 Duke up close and personal. "I was at the Duke game and man the atmosphere was real crazy. I really liked it," stated Rice.

At this point in the process, Rice claims no favorites and is keeping all of his options open. He will be playing this summer with the NC Gaters. Rice will also be playing in Dave Telep's Carolina Classic on March 29th in Cary, North Carolina.
