Williams Expected To Miss Three Weeks

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest sophomore guard L.D. Williams is expected to miss approximately three weeks due to a fracture in his right hand suffered in the Demon Deacons' game at Clemson on Tuesday.

Sophomore center Chas McFarland also suffered a right knee sprain on Tuesday. McFarland had an MRI on Wednesday afternoon, and the results came back favorable. The MRI showed no tears or structural damage to McFarland's knee. His availability will be evaluated on a daily basis.

Williams will miss approximately three weeks with a fracture in his right hand. He is scheduled to have a minor surgical procedure on Thursday morning to stabilize the fracture and is expected to return to basketball-related activity in 10 days. Williams suffered the injury near the 7:20 mark of the second half. After diving for a loose ball, Williams' hand was inadvertently stepped on by a Clemson player. Williams left the game at the 2:29 mark and did not return. McFarland suffered the knee injury after being knocked to the floor during a rebounding situation with 55 seconds left in regulation. He left the game and did not return. Williams has started every game of his Wake Forest career, including all 18 games this season. The sophomore from Yadkinville, N.C., is averaging 10.1 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per game, each of which rank third on the team. McFarland has started 15 of Wake Forest's past 16 games. The 7-0 center from Lovington, Ill., is averaging 7.1 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game. He finished with nine points and a career-high 13 rebounds before leaving Tuesday's game. Wake Forest is currently 12-6 overall and 2-3 in the ACC. The Deacons will not be in action this weekend and will host Miami on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m.
