DEACON RB SIGNEE BRANDON PENDERGRASS
On Wake Forest's season
I thought the season went great, all you really hoping for when you commit to the team is that they come out and do good. To make it to the
Orange Bowl was beyond expectations. I went to the Orange Bowl and half the stadium filled with Wake Forest fans...how many supporters they had
that came down to the game was crazy.
What it means to get a full scholarship
It means everything I've worked for is starting to pay off. Continuing
to work hard all the way through high school, and have the chance to
play Division I football and get your degree.
On why he chose Wake Forest
I just like the vibe I had when I got up there. The small campus, the great vibe from the coaches and players, the atmosphere was laid back and that really fits me.
What he's doing in the off season
Just working on adding a little more weight and maintaining my speed.
On his injury late in the year
I just twisted my knee. It was hard for me to run in that last game because it was wrapped. Two weeks later I trained and rehabbed with my
trainer and it was fine. I could have played in the all-star game, but my trainer, my dad, and I talked about it and we decided we didn't want
to further risk anything.
PENDERGRASS' HS COACH ERIC PATTERSON
On Brandon's career at Royal Palm
Right from the beginning, we knew we had a special young man in Brandon. He did everything you asked him to. He learns, listens to his coaches, strives to get better in weight room, works to get better by running track...he's been a pleasure to coach.
As a football player
First of all, it's got to be his competitive desire. If there's one thing Brandon hates, he hates to lose. Can't stand losing. He's got
speed, he's a 4.4 kid so he's got wheels and can run well. In the open field he can accelerate and got by guys. He can make a move on a dime
and can outjuke any guy one on one. And then, he's got the power behind all that. He squats almost 500 pounds, and physcially he's so darn
strong that when a guy tries to tackle him one-on-one, it's probably not happen. Also, he's got the softest hands you've ever seen, can catch out of the backfield.
Brandon as a person
There's not many guys on a football team that never get in the doghouse. Brandon is one of them. He has always done everything he's ever been asked. He's in all honors classes, has a very supportive family, his mom and dad did a great job in molding his character, and he's got a younger brother who looks up to him.
Brandon as a Demon Deacon
Wake Forest is getting a top notch player. I think he has unlimited potential. If he stays healthy I don't think there's any doubt he could
be playing on Sunday. He's got that internal drive that will keep him going through everything.
