Gray, Others Working Hard In Summer School

Rising freshman basketball player Justin Gray knows that Wake Forest will be young next season. That doesn't stop him from thinking the Deacs will be competing for the ACC crown next year, however.

Wake Forest guard Justin Gray is hitting the hardwood this summer on the Wake Forest University campus along with a host of other Deacon basketball players. And, while many predict Wake to struggle next season as a very young and inexperienced team, Gray tells DeaconSports that he expects great things from the team.

"Eric [Williams], Richard [Joyce], Trent [Strickland], Chris [Ellis], Josh [Howard], Vytas [Danelius], and myself [are at summer school]," Gray said. "We go workout together and then we go and play pick-up. Everything is going well with the workouts and I think everyone is doing great in [those] workouts."

While Gray notes that the players are looking good this summer, he also tells DeaconSports that his expectations are high for the upcoming season. "I think this year everyone is overlooking us because they think that this is a rebuilding year or whatever," Gray said, "but I don't believe in a rebuilding year. Coach Prosser bought us in because he believed that we can help the team win. So I think we will be competing for the top spot in the ACC."

Meanwhile, Gray believes that he will figure into the Wake lineup in 02-03 as well. "I think that I will have the opportunity to play alot this year if I keep working hard," Gray told DeaconSports. "Some things I think I have to work on to get better are getting stronger and keep working on my basics."

We would like to thank Justin for taking the time to respond to our questions. We will continue to update the basketball team's progress with updates like this one as the season gets closer.
