Earlier this month, West Forsyth safety John Stamper became the second West Forsyth Titan to earn a DI offer when the 5’11, 190-pound prospect picked up his first offer to play football at Wake Forest University.

This past year, West Forsyth linebacker Kyle Jarrett received an early offer from Wake Forest and the 2007 linebacker prospect quickly jumped on the opportunity. Now, a second West Forsyth player has earned an offer. “My head coach went over [to Wake Forest] because they wanted to see more tape,” John Stamper said. “He showed it to them and the next day they offered me. My coach told about it then and I called them and they told me about it.”

As the offer from Wake Forest was his first football offer, Stamper was thrilled to hear the news. “I was real excited,” he said. “I had just been waiting a long time for it. I was thrilled to get it. I haven’t gotten any more offers yet, but I got an offer from baseball with UNC-G.”

Along with those offers, Stamper is hearing from a host of other DI football programs. Clemson, Virginia, North Carolina State, Florida, Texas, USC, Michigan, Michigan State, and Tennessee are a handful of the teams who have written Stamper letters in recent weeks. “I’m going to State this weekend for a junior day,” he noted. “I’ve gotten a bunch of letters from other schools and will go to a bunch of junior days.”

To date, Stamper has already made a visit to Wake Forest for the Duke basketball game and was slated to attend a game at Virginia, though that was cancelled due to the recent snow storm.

While Stamper already has one offer on the table, he has several decisions to make in regards to college and does not plan to make any of those decisions anytime soon. “I’ll probably end up waiting until my season starts to make a decision.,” Stamper said. “We’ll see how everything works out and also see if I get other offers to consider.”

He also plans to mull over playing baseball at the next level. “I’m going to see,” he said. “I actually talked to Grobe about doing both and he said it’d be fine but I had to focus on football first which I understand. I’ll see how it goes this year.”

In the meantime, Stamper will continue to push hard to improve his game and prepare for life at the next level. “Actually I’m working on agility stuff right now,” he noted. “Working hard, trying to gain some weight. I’ve got some combines coming up soon so I’ve got to do good in those.”

“Really the biggest thing for me is to gain some weight, work on my speed, and watch some film,” he said. “Hopefully with some hard work we’ll get a chance to win a state championship this year.”
