Around The ACC: Conference News

Posted Mar 19, 2002

Around the ACC, Duke junior guard Jason Williams was named the Men's College Basketball Player of the Year on Monday. Meanwhile, UNC's Brian Morrison, once a WFU recruiting target, will transfer from the Tarheel program.

Duke guard Jason Williams received one of the highest honors a college basketball player can receive on Monday when he was named the Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year.

Williams is the second straight Blue Devil to garner the award as Shane Battier was honored as the National Player of the Year last season. Duke's Elton Brand also received the award in 1999.

On a different front, UNC basketball player Brian Morrison announced Monday that he will transfer from the program. Morrison averaged 7.1 points in his final season in a Carolina uniform.

A Redmond, Washington native, Morrison was heavily recruited to attend Wake Forest by Coach Dave Odom when he coached at Wake. Morrison and another UNC transfer, Neil Fingleton, both chose UNC over Wake Forest that year.
