While classes take up much of Williams' time, he spends much of the rest of his time in the gym. "Last week I worked out with the assistant coach [at Montverde] and we just finished up our summer league in Haines City. We placed third. It was a learning experience because we had about 5-6 new players this year. Coach put us in the summer league to learn how to play with each other. Then I've got the Nike Camp and then the Peach Jam with Boo Williams and then Superstar Nationals with Boo Williams."
In these events and his workouts the rest of the summer, Williams plans to improve his all around game on the court. "I'm still trying to work on my jump shot," he said. "I've come a long way but can still go up with it. I'm working on my ball handling and all around game."
While he works to improve his game, Williams was also thrilled to hear of Ishmael Smith's commitment to Wake Forest this past week. "We played together at the [Wake Forest] Elite Camp," Williams said. "I love playing with Ish. Me and Ish, we've been playing against each other since I was around 12. He's so quick and he passes the ball very well. He gets baseline to baseline with the ball faster than anyone and he sees the floor like Jason Kidd. He's a great player and he can shoot pretty well."
Williams also gave his impressions of Wake's other recent commitment, shooting guard Anthony Gurley. "He can shoot – flat out shoot from anywhere on the floor" Williams said. "He's deceptively quick and gets to the hoop and scores with big men there. Coach feels like he can be a Justin Gray type player."
Williams is on his way to Nike Camp on Tuesday and will attend the camp this week followed by a trip to the Peach Jam next week. Stay tuned to DeaconSports for more from L.D. Williams after the Nike Camp as well as Peach Jam over the next two weeks.
