Hauser: "It felt great, like family"

Although he wasn't recruited very long by Wake Forest, Andrew Hauser of Charter Oak High School (Covina, Calif.) didn't hesitate to accept when he was extended an offer by the staff. The 6-foot-2, 265 middle linebacker went on a quick visit to Winston-Salem just before National Signing Day and then went back home to the Los Angeles area to fax in his signature.

"It was three days before signing day when I heard from Coach Himebauch," said Hauser. "He then put me in touch with Coach Jackson and Coach McCartney. I was offered by Coach McCartney and gave him my verbal on the spot.

"I went to Wake Forest on an official visit [early] February. I loved all of the players and coaches. It felt great, like family. It was first time ever at Wake Forest. I loved it. My host was Cody Preble, the offensive lineman."

One interesting note from Hauser's offer is the staff likes him at nose guard although he's spent the last three years as a starter at MIKE linebacker. As a senior, he was named All-Defense by the San Diego Valley Tribune and All-Sierra League. He had 85 tackles, two interceptions 11 quarterback hurries and 8.5 sacks on the 2012 season.

"When Wake forest offered me they said they liked my diversity as a player," Hauser explained. "They think I'm capable of playing multiple positions. I'm still growing and put on a lot of weight when I work out so they see me developing into a nose guard's body. My game is physical. I like to hit a lot and get after the quarterback. I've played with my hand on the ground before at defensive end so I don't think it will be a big transition for me.

"I choose Wake Forest because of my relationship with Coach Mac. I also had an awesome talk with Coach Grobe. On my visit, the atmosphere was fantastic. I was by myself, but my family and I are planning a trip to go back for the spring game."

Hauser said he plans to spend the rest of the winter and spring training and adding weight to he'll be ready to report to Wake Forest on July 6th.
