Weaver excited about the Deacs

Wake Forest was hoping to find a little more boom in their kickoffs next season. They think they found what they're looking for in Mike Weaver, a 6-foot-1, 182-pound place kicker from Southside High School in Elmira, N.Y. Weaver, a former soccer star, decided to play high school football in his senior season at Southside. The Demon Deacon coaches are happy that he did.

"My offer from Wake Forest came in January," said Mike Weaver. "Coach Mitchell, who coaches running backs and special teams, was my recruiter. He liked my strong leg and the power I have on my kickoffs. They want me to come in and win the starting job as the kickoff specialist next season.
