2012 Season Review: S

The 2012 season is over for the Miami Hurricanes so it's time to take a look back at what happened. Today, we break down the play of the safeties.

The Players:

Deon Bush (Fr) -- A four-star recruit in last year's recruiting class, Bush made a big impact right away. He quickly became the team's top safety. He missed two games due to injury but still finished with 34 tackles and three pass breakups. He was also the team's biggest hitter in the secondary, and that's a big reason why he also caused three fumbles.

A.J. Highsmith (Jr) -- A starter for most of the season, Highsmith played in every game for the Canes. The former quarterback finished the season with 32 tackles, one caused fumble, one interception, and four pass breakups.

Kacy Rodgers (Jr) -- A part-time starter all season, Rodgers turned in his best season as a Hurricane. He finished the season with 54 tackles, and was Miami's most active safety near the line of scrimmage.

Rayshawn Jenkins (Fr) -- A talented newcomer, Jenkins made an impact right away. The former prep quarterback played in 10 games and finished the season with 27 tackles. He also added three pass breakups and one interception.

Vaughn Telemaque (Sr) -- A former high profile recruit who played a lot early in his career, Telemaque was buried on the depth chart this season. He played in 10 games, finished with 20 tackles, and caused a fumble.

Andreu Swasey (Sr) -- A former walkon, the son of UM's strength coach played in 11 games and finished with four tackles. He played mostly on special teams.

2012 Recap: Bush showed flashes of being really good. He provided a physical presence back there. Rodgers and Highsmith were part-time starters who turned in decent play. Jenkins made some plays off the bench. Telemaque didn't have the senior season most had expected from him.

Looking ahead to 2013: Gone are the the last two safeties on the depth chart -- Telemaque and Swasey. The top four will return. Bush and Jenkins are the projected starters, while Highsmith and Rodgers will likely be solid backup options.
