Kameron Williams discusses recruitment

Kameron Williams

The Chris Paul Camp went on this past weekend in Winston-Salem. DeaconSports had a chance to speak with basketball prospect Kameron Williams for a few minutes between drills.

Since this is Williams' first trip to Winston-Salem, he first talked about his thought on the city. "I like it here, it is a nice city," he said. "The area is really nice and so are the people, they have been really nice to me."

Being from Baltimore, Kameron said Winston-Salem is a good distance from home, "not too far and not too close." While here, he hopes and expects to visit the Wake Forest campus and said he was "really looking forward to it" after the camp completes its run.

Known primarily as a scorer, Kameron made it clear that is not all he can do. "I would like to transition to playing both guard spots and think I can do a good job as a point guard as well as a two-guard." Already 6'2 3/4", he thinks he is currently growing some more and will end up 6'3"+ by next season. He will have a busy summer playing AAU ball and attending camps like the CP3 one that he enjoyed. "This has been really great so far, learning from the best point guard in the NBA is a good experience."

His recruitment has been picking up lately and admitted he has 2 co-leaders right now and when I asked him about the recent article saying Miami was the favorite he said the Deacs are also in there. "Really it is Wake and Miami who are my favorites and they are even," he said. He mentioned how well he liked Coach Caputo of Miami and Coach Corbean of Wake Forest. "They are great guys and I enjoy hearing from both of them."

He hopes this coming season will lead to several levels of championships for his Mount Saint Joseph High School team. "Winning is what I'm all about and a state title is our goal."

When asked what he felt he did best he said, "definitely shooting, especially off the dribble" although he made it clear he also can score by taking it to the hoop. His main area of improvement he will be working on this year is his strength and his defense. He has all the tools, quickness, length, hands, etc. to be a good defender but will have to guard against lacking the focus on that side of the court that he has on the offensive end. While he mentioned that he was not close to making a decision on his college destination, he did say "you never know" about a timeline and the possibility it could be sooner rather than later.
