Wake coach set to watch Beyer

Wake Forest verbally offered Matt Beyer about two weeks ago and they're letting him know that they want him badly. Beyer is a 6-6, 275-pound offensive tackle from San Antonio (TX) Reagan. In other words he's a prototypical prospect at a crucial position from a talent-rich state. He was bound to receive plenty of interest.

He's now got offers from Wake, Miami, Miami, Minnesota, Kansas, Baylor, Arizona State and Houston plus others.

"I've been talking to Coach Himebauch and I know he's going to our practice...He'll be there to watch me and our scrimmage," Beyer told DeaconSports earlier week.

Beyer is excited that Himebauch is coming because, although he has never visited Wake, he has heard the Deacs offer an education that not too many schools can rival.

"I've been told that it's a great, great degree to have," he said of Wake. "Their business school is one of the premier schools in the entire country."

Of course, living in San Antonio, Beyer was bound to know a little bit about Wake Forest.

"You know, Tim Duncan played there," he said with a laugh. "But seriously, when it comes to choosing a college academics are very important to me."

Beyer said he will start to think about summer visits and camps after spring ball ends in the coming weeks. He said Wake Forest is a school he will consider taking a trip to, though with so many offers from so many different parts of the country he has some hard decisions to make.

Beyer is ranked the No. 60 offensive tackle in the nation by Scout.
