WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest head coach Jeff Bzdelik announced today that point guard Madison Jones has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Wake Forest beginning in the fall of 2012.

Jones is a 6-1 point guard out of Ravenscroft School in Raleigh. He recently led Ravenscroft to its first NCISAA title in 32 years, scoring a game-high 22 points in the championship win over Greensboro Page.

An all-state selection, Jones averaged 14.8 points, 4.3 assists and 3.1 steals this past season, leading the Ravens to a 31-4 overall record and their sixth-straight TISAC Conferene championship. Behind the play of Jones, Ravenscroft also earned a berth in the eight-team ESPNHS National High School Invitational in Bethesda, Md.

“Madison is a true point guard who was very instrumental in leading Ravenscroft School to a state championship,” said Bzdelik. “He has been extremely well-coached, and his high basketball IQ, coupled with his outstanding leadership ability, is a welcomed addition to our basketball program.”

Jones ranks eighth all-time in career scoring at Ravenscroft with 1,123 points. He also passed the 400-career assist mark this past season.

“Wake Forest has outstanding coaches who can help me develop as a player, and Wake Forest offers a great education,” Jones when he verbally committed in early April. “I’m excited about the future of the program and I really like that Wake Forest reminds me of a bigger version of Ravenscroft. I feel like I’ll fit in perfectly. This has been something I’ve dreamed of and it’s the best possible way to end an incredible senior year.”

Jones joins six other incoming student-athletes who signed with the Deacons last fall: guard Codi Miller-McIntyre (Concord, N.C.), forwards Tyler Cavanaugh (Jamesville, N.Y.), Arnaud Adala Moto (Alexandria, Va.), Aaron Rountree (Wilson, N.C.) and Devin Thomas (Harrisburg, Pa.) and center Andre Washington (Rocky Mount, N.C.).

Jones, Miller-McIntyre and Rountree teamed up last weekend in the Jordan Brand Classic Regional game in Charlotte. The Wake Forest trio helped the East Team to an 84-82 win over the West. Jones had a game-high four steals, Rountree pulled down 12 boards and Miller-McIntyre dished out three assists on the day.

Wake Forest’s incoming recruiting class is ranked in the top 25 in the nation according to multiple services, including ESPN and Scout.com.
