Taiwan Johnson talks list

Taiwan Johnson is a standout defensive end from Manvel, Texas. Well into double-digit offers, he discussed where his strongest interests lie and how he's started to narrow down his options.

"For me, it's always been important to have academics and also football; looking at what I want to do as a player, and what's going to help me after football is over," the 6-3, 230-pound athlete explained.

"The size of the school wasn't really important. I think one of the major things for me was the surroundings of the school, and how the coaching staff interacts with the players on a personal level."

The senior discussed the strongest bonds he's formed with different coaching staffs.

"The coaches from SMU- I love those guys," he said. "They're a great group of people. They're very fun to be around, and there's never a dull moment around Coach Reinebold.

"Arkansas and Nebraska, they're great people too. On a personal level I know them very well. I really like the Rice coaches because I just feel at home since I'm down the street. It's like a family away from family."

Johnson described similarities between his current coaching staff and another.

"SMU is probably the closest group that remind me of my coaches," he said. "They're very good friends and have all been with each other before. They crack jokes, and they know how to get the players to react and respond."

Johnson also has offers from across the country, made up of a list including Colorado, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Boise State and Mississippi.

The defensive end will make his official visit to Nebraska this coming weekend, of which he commented, "I'm very excited."

Of his remaining official visits he said, "I'm going to Arkansas October 5th, and Oklahoma State sometime soon. The other two I'm not really sure about yet."

Johnson described plans for ultimately narrowing his extensive list.

"Probably after I take these next officials," he explained. "I've seen SMU and Rice, so when I go see Nebraska, Arkansas and Oklahoma State I'm pretty sure I'll be able to make the cut."
